Mark Theissen opens today’s show with his analysis of how the Obama Administration is inviting the next attack. These type of defense cuts will leave America open to another attack that could be more horrific than 9/11. We need to build our budget around our strategy instead of building our strategy around our budget. Boeing will be closing a huge plant in Wichita, Kansas that will put over 2100 people out of work because the president does not feel defense is important to America and our economy.  The Obama Administration is willing to release a mass murderer, someone who has committed atrocities against humanity in order to secure peace talks with the Taliban.  The Taliban sees America’s willingness to negotiate as a sign of submission and this is emboldening our enemy to become more aggressive and seek greater concessions on the part of the American forces. What is the cost of these defense cuts to our economy and our security?

Supna Zaidi from the Lawfare Project spends time with Frank to explain how her organization is fighting to defend the Constitution and liberty against those who seek to use legal means to censor or diminish liberty.  India is using their legal system to force international internet provides, such as Google, to remove any content that is deemed offensive to normal sensibilities. Also, the Turkish government has used legal means to jail critics of Islam and the OIC has advocated the use of legal systems around the world in order to push Sharia onto free societies.  Will Islamists in America turn to our courts in order to push their Sharia agenda onto our free society?

Fred Grandy spends two segments with Frank to give his analysis on the Iowa Caucuses  as well as what Congress needs to do in order to ensure national security and stave off cataclysmic cuts to defense and our freedoms. Will there be Congressional hearings to help protect Americans? The Obama Administration is willing to release high ranking Taliban leaders from Guantanamo Bay in return for the Taliban to open peace talks with us. Are we submitting to the enemy? Where is Congress in preventing such a disastrous chain of events from occurring?

With Clare Lopez, Special Agent Jeffrey Scott, and Jim Hanson

Clare Lopez spends time with Frank to explain what is happening inside the Islamic Republic of Iran.  Nuclear scientists turning up dead, the destruction of a missile facility and the most recent accident at an alleged weapons research facility; is Iran having a string of bad luck or is there more to these accidents? There seems to be a campaign to destroy Iran’s nuclear weapons program, but is the campaign coming from inside Iran or are there outside forces at work? The shock wave from the explosion at the ballistic missile facility was felt over 30kms away. This facility developed the delivery system needed for Iran’s ballistic missiles that would carry weapons of mass destruction; nuclear, biological or chemical. The buildings within this facility were completely flattened and the Iranian regime has quickly closed ranks around the incident, but there is something brewing within the regime. The regime knows it’s in trouble, the world knows that the people do not support this regime anymore and they must be fearful of being the target from factions inside and outside the country.  The friction between the supreme leader and the president has grown showing dissent from within the regime itself. Putting the IRGC on alert shows the insecurity that the regime has against its own people and other nations. Could this insecurity lead to a preemptive strike against American interests? What would a nuclear weapon mean to a regime that is insecure of its own survival?

DEA Agent Jeffrey Scott joins Frank to explain the discovery of one of the most elaborate underground tunnels from Tijuana to San Diego.  The San Diego Tunnel Task Force was created to combat this growing tactic used by the drug cartels. In the last four years, DEA has discovered around 75 underground tunnels from Mexico into the United States. There are “rudimentary tunnels that are nothing more than gopher holes,” interconnected tunnels that use existing construction such as sewer tunnels and then there are the sophisticated tunnels which are large scale and employ elevators, running water, electricity and other means to support large amounts of narcotics and traffickers. These sophisticated tunnels do pose a problem to investigators do to their complexity and the almost unlimited resources available to the cartels. When agents do discover these tunnels, the seizure is significant and hits the cartels hard. This particular tunnel which was 612 yards long with lights, steel doors and electric cars to carry drugs yielded 32 tons of marijuana with a street value of $50-$60 million which will be difficult for the cartels to replace. With cartels becoming more ingenious, what will this mean for American security?

Jim Hanson provides a boots-on the-ground analysis of the situation in Afghanistan.  The president has failed to not only provide the troops with the proper resources to ensure total victory, but he failed to create a clear objective for the military to achieve. The Taliban have achieved their objective by waiting the Americans out just like the mujahedeen did against the Soviets. For Secretary of State Clinton to announce that America will play a role in Afghanistan even after the 2014 pull out is just ridiculous because everyone knows that once the Americans leave the Taliban will come back to power and regain all the territory they lost. The Afghan security forces do not have the capabilities to maintain the level of security that America has provided and without completely removing all Taliban opposition, there is no way to ensure future Afghan security. Will American forces return to Afghanistan if the Taliban comes back to power? Why does the president have no interest in securing Afghanistan? And what does the recent developments in the U.S./Pakistan relationship mean for Afghan operations?  Jim also explains Leon Panetta’s about-face on the defense cuts and what that means to the troops themselves. How can our troops effectively protect our nation without the proper resources which cost money?

With Gordon Chang, Dr. Barry Rubin, Mackenzie Eaglen, and Andy McCarthy

Gordon Chang explains China’s “Zero Sum Game” with the United States. The Chinese view towards relations with the U.S. is that one side must win and one side must lose. America sees relationships as win/win for both parties, whereas the Chinese feel that only one party can win and dominate the international system. What can America do to “win” this game? China has becoming more aggressive in their rhetoric towards America. Chinese Flag Officers have claimed that China will engage America in war within the next 5-10 years. How can the American government ignore claims such as that? There are now signs that the Chinese economy is declining and becoming smaller. What does this mean for the Communist Party? Economic tribulations for China will result in them becoming more belligerent towards their neighbors in order to keep the peace within the populace. What will happen if China starts to breakdown? With the EU collapsing, what does that mean for the US and China? The U.S. is in the best position to weather the storm because America has the largest domestic economy, but China will suffer greatly.

Dr. Barry Rubin gives a history lesson on the Muslim Brotherhood. He explains where they came from and how they collaborated with the Nazis during World War 2.  It is reprehensible for the Obama Administration to work with the Muslim Brotherhood and their subsidiaries. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is leading U.S. policy in the Middle East; this is equivalent to the U.S. using Fidel Castro as their advisor to Latin America. How can this policy possibly have a positive outcome? The Obama Administration has claimed that they support the new governments of the Arab Spring and this is part of his Muslim outreach program. If Obama works with the Muslim Brotherhood, what would that mean for American security? The Muslim Brotherhood claims to be moderate, which they are not, and if they gain power then they will follow the Turkish model and slowly take over every aspect of society, not with force, but through controlling the government and legal institutions. This takeover will be slow and take time so as not to arouse suspicion from the international community. What does this mean for Israel, the Middle East and the United States of America?

Mackenzie Eaglen joins Frank to give the truth behind the defense budget cuts. In 2011 the White House Budget Office reported the Defense Budget at $730 billion and President Obama requested that in the next fiscal year it be cut to $703 billion; this was before the debt ceiling deal. The year after that the Defense Budget will be cut by another $26 billion and in 2013 President Obama has requested the Defense Budget be capped at $652 billion. It would be 2016 before the Defense Budget would be able to grow back to 2011 numbers. Since Obama has been president, $700 billion have been cut from defense. Unlike Entitlements, Defense does not have a clear base line for which to cut money. So why is everyone looking to cut Defense when it is much easier to cut Entitlements? What impact will these cuts have on our national security? America’s Navy is the smallest it has been since World War 1 and these cuts will make it the smallest since the 19th century; what ability will they have to protect the world’s waters? With these cuts the Air Force will be the smallest it has ever been in history and already it is small and aging.

Weekly guest Andy McCarthy gives his analysis on the future Defense cuts and what that means to American security. Andy explains the need to make cuts to defense, especially with a mounting debt, but the government needs to keep in mind their priority and responsibility to protect the homeland.  Why aren’t there cuts to Entitlements? Protecting the nation is a responsibility enshrined in the Constitution, not Entitlements yet they are not on the cutting table. It is necessary that America has a clear goal and direction for its defense and then come up with an intelligent budget to allow the DOD to achieve those objectives.

Rep. Mike Turner, Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee’s Strategic Forces Subcommittee, explains the importance of America’s nuclear deterrence and how it needs to be upgraded. America’s nuclear capabilities have provided deterrence from not only nuclear threats, but conventional threats as well. With an aging nuclear arsenal the question of reliability comes into play and since America is no longer testing this deterrent, how can we be certain they will work if the need arose? Do America’s allies really believe the U.S. strategic arsenal could provide protection? The Obama Administration wants to rid the world of nuclear weapons, yet the only country that can decrease its weapons is America. Rep. Turner speaks on the importance of America’s strategic arsenal to be upgraded and well funded in order to provide an appropriate defense of the nation. The threats to America have only increased and we must be able to meet those threats.

ICE Special Agent in Charge for Arizona Matt Allen speaks about Operation Pipeline Express. This was a multiagency investigation of an 80 mile stretch of the Arizona/Mexico border to combat the narcotics smuggling within that tough, rugged area. The Sinaloa Cartel was the focus of the investigation which moves approximately 1 million lbs. of marijuana into the U.S. per year. The outcome of the operation yielded 76 arrests and interrupted the flow of some $33 million dollars worth of narcotics. The cartels watch how law enforcement handles the situation and then adapts to overcome federal and local efforts, in turn agencies such as ICE must watch what the cartels are doing and adapt to overcome those efforts in order to secure our borders.

CBN reporter Erick Stacklebeck enlightens listeners on Mohammed Elibiary who markets himself as a moderate Muslim. The Obama Administration took notice and swore him in as a Homeland Security Advisor and helped shaped the Obama Administration’s counterterrorism strategy. Elibiary has a record of supporting Muslim Brotherhood ideology and used his Secret Clearance to access sensitive government information and then leaked it to the media. His goal, reportedly, was to spread false reports of Islamophobia and slander GOP presidential candidate Rick Perry. Elibiary is the only person on this 26 man advisory committee with access to this type of sensitive information, yet has not lost his job as a result of this serious breach of national security. Why has the Obama Administration failed to properly handle this situation with horrific national security implications? And why has the media not reported on a story of this magnitude? Why has the Obama Administration decided to halt training on the threat posed by radical Islam?

Mark Durie, author of “The Third Choice,” speaks on how Sharia provisions are being infused with Western laws. A native of Australia, Mark gives insights on how his countrymen are becoming more aware of how Islamists are working towards implementing Sharia into the Australian legal system. Fortunately, the Australian government has recognized this threat and worked towards keeping Australia Sharia free and therefore upholding the rights of everyone. “There is one law for everyone,” is what the Australian government proclaims when asked to implement Sharia into society. The end goal for these Islamists to have Shaira, in its entity, infused in Western society and allowing any parts of Sharia into a free society is a slippery slope and it is hard to draw the line on where to stop. It is better to not even start with allowing this archaic, submissive legal system into western society. Western nations around the around the world are experiencing this pressure to implement Sharia provisions, will they follow Australia’s lead or will they succumb to pressure from these Islamists?

What are the national security implications of cuts to the defense budget? How will the U.S.operate in light of recent actions taken by the Obama administration? Frank opens today’s Secure Freedom Radio reflecting on the connection between energy security and national security and implications of the proposed defense budget cuts.  James Roche, 20th Secretary of the U.S. Air Force, stresses the connection between fuel diversity and less dependence on foreign oil on national security.  Roche also speaks to the difficulty of maintainingU.S. presence and power worldwide in light of proposed cuts to an already diminished military force.

Next the Aerospace Industries Association Vice President for National Security, Fred Downey examines recent study findings.  Downey describes how the aerospace and defense industrial base has dramatically declined in the 21st century and we are at risk of no longer being the “top dog” in this important area if we do not protect this base.  Findings show that the number of large aerospace production companies has gone from one hundred fifty in 1960 to about seven currently.  This has also led to more reliance on foreign sources of supply for our weapons systems.  Finally, Downey states that an estimated 1 million jobs, of which 350,000 include highly skilled workers, are at risk if the proposed $1.2 trillion Super Committee cuts are taken from defense.

Jim Hanson, contributor for Big Peace and writer for the military website BLACKFIVE, concludes today’s show touching on topics related to Iran, Turkey, and Libya.  Hanson condemns Obama’s recent announcement to remove all troops fromIraqby the end of the year.  The lack ofU.S.presence will give power-hungryIranan opportunity to gain control and also leave our diplomats and civilians in an unsafe situation.  In addition, attributing the death of Moammar Qaddafi to Obama’s success as Commander-in Chief is shortsighted and the Obama administration must also question its current relationship with NATO ally Turkey.

Secure Freedom RadioWill a downgrade in our credit rating lead to a downgrade in our nation’s security?  Standard and Poor’s announcement on Friday comes on the heels of a significant cuts to the military budget and significant growth of threats around the world.  But first, Jon Perdue, of the Fund for American Studies, joins Frank to discuss Hugo Chavez’s use of Cuba’s universal health care and the latest developments with an alleged deal between U.S. Federal Agents and the Sinaloa drug cartel.  Perdue reports on Chavez’s visits for cancer treatment from a Spanish Doctor in Cuba, and points to his younger brother, Adán Chávez, as a possible successor in the event of his death.  He also informs on the newly surfaced tape of Attorney General Eric Holder speaking in 2009 about Operation Gunrunner, proof against his current stance of ignorance on Fast and Furious.  Perdue, the Director of Latin America Programs, also explains how lawsuits of President Rafael Correa have “frozen free speech in Ecuador,” as more and more nations in the region begin to take pages out of the Chavez playbook.

Next, Executive Director of the Center for Immigration Studies Mark Krikorian discusses the latest activities along our Southern border.  Unlike the metaphorical U.S. “War on Drugs,” Mexico is literally engaged in a military struggle with drug cartels, threatening to leave a power vacuum for terrorist groups like Hezbollah to fill so near to home.  Krikorian explains how the notion of a more secure border than ever is becoming a punch line with a fence that “your Grandmother could hop over.”  Krikorian also calls attention to the significant Lebanese and Iraqi immigrant communities in Mexico, as well as the legal battle between the Justice Department and Alabama, which will likely need to be settled by the Supreme Court.

Ryan Mauro, Founder of Worldthreats.com, joins Secure Freedom Radio to examine the possible repercussions of the devastating helicopter crash in Afghanistan carrying 30 American soldiers, 22 of whom were members of Seal Team Six.  Mauro explains how the insurgent strike may serve as retaliation in the minds of the Taliban for the killing of Osama Bin Laden, and hence boost their morale.  Mauro, author of Death to America: The Unreported Battle of Iraq, also explains why the fall of the Assad regime in Syria would be good for the West, the increasingly likelihood of Turkish intervention there, and finally the perilous situation in Yemen, where all forces vying for control are antithetical to the U.S.

Gordon Chang, our resident Asia expert, concludes today’s show by discussing S&P’s downgrade of America’s credit rating and how it has proven China to be an enemy of the United States.  After years of seeking to supplant the U.S. Dollar, immediately following the downgrade China’s official news agency Xinhua suggested the international community should monitor U.S. monetary printing.  The State-owned People’s Daily also called for treasury holdings to be used as a “financial weapon” against the U.S.  Chang explains how our trade-deficit with China is financing their military build-up, and how President Obama refuses to mention the hostile and belligerent China regime, and Washington’s refusal to confront the ugly truth that the Chinese want to do us harm.

China blasts US over credit rating downgrade

BEIJING (AP) — China, the largest foreign holder of U.S. debt, demanded Saturday that America tighten its belt and confront its “addiction to debts” in the wake of Standard & Poor’s decision to downgrade the U.S. credit rating.

China currently owns $1.2 trillion of U.S. Treasury debt, the largest stake of any central bank. The commentary carried by the state-run Xinhua News Agency was Beijing’s first official response to the S&P decision.

“The U.S. government has to come to terms with the painful fact that the good old days when it could just borrow its way out of messes of its own making are finally gone,” Xinhua said.

America’s Third War: The U.S. Cut a Deal With the Sinaloa Carte, Say Court Documents

U.S. federal agents allegedly cut a deal with the Sinaloa drug cartel that allowed it to traffic tons of narcotics across the border, in exchange for information about rival cartels, according to documents filed in federal court.  Click here to view the Sinaloa Cartel case document.

The allegations are made by Vicente Zambada-Niebla, a top ranking cartel boss extradited to the U.S. last year on drug charges. He is a close associate of Mexico’s most wanted man, Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman and the son of Ismael “Mayo” Zambada-Garcia.

Both remain fugitives, in part, because of the deal Zambada- Niebla made with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, according to a defense motion filed last Friday in the case.

Rep. Rogers on Bioterrorism with Frank Gaffney

In the search for cuts during the budget battle, Congress took the easy way out by looking at defense.  “It’s easy to say there’s a big budget, let’s just take a slice out of it and move on,” says Congressman Mike Rogers, of Michigan’s 8th district.  However, if we gut the military, he warns, we will suffer the same consequences of the lack of preparedness for North Korea, and both World Wars.  Rep. Rogers, Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, joins Frank to discuss these cuts to national security, as well as his efforts to combat Bioterrorism.  Rogers details Project Bio Shield, a bill he introduced to create funding to stockpile vaccines in the case of a bioterror attack, one we are currently ill prepared for.  He also sounds the alarm against Iran’s nuclear ambitions, one he has been ringing since 2004.  “Imagine a regime that is a state-sponsor of terror… now gets the cover of nuclear weapons,” he says, expressing the need to deter this danger, one the Obama Administration continues to ignore.

Next, Michael Paddock, CEO of Grants Office and columnist for Homeland Security Today, discusses the neglect of focus on Homeland Security Prevention programs for local law enforcement.  Since the death of Osama Bin Laden the public perception is that the War on Terror is over.  However, Paddock explains that all the vulnerabilities facing the nation after 9/11 continue to threaten the United States.  He stresses the importance of providing resources to train localities for potential attacks, as it is local police and fire departments that will necessarily be on the front lines if a terrorist strikes.  Paddock also describes the Department of Homeland Security’s lack of strategy for the various threats percolating above and below the surface, as Janet Napolitano seems to be “throwing all the spaghetti at the wall and seeing what sticks.”

Finally, T. Boone Pickens, oil savant and entrepreneur extraordinaire, joins Frank for two segments to discuss the irrationality of importing oil from the Middle East.  In the late 1940s and 1950s, buying oil from the Middle East was practical given its affordability in the free market system.  However, in modern times, with the introduction of OPEC, it is irrational to import oil from our enemies at much higher prices disconnected from the free market.   That is why there is cause for the “T. Boone Pickens Plan” that aims at making the U.S. energy independent, and the oilman personally explains today on Secure Freedom Radio.

Grants & Resources: Bin Laden and Public Safety Funding

Combating violent extremism and violent radicalization within the United States, though, requires as much from local authorities as from SEAL teams. The Counter Violent Extremism Working Group (CVEW), established by Napolitano in January 2009 to coordinate counter-violent-extremism efforts across DHS, found that “community-oriented policing works in preventing violent crime.” One thing is clear: An overall reduction in funding for the local public safety and other community-based emergency management agencies will leave the country more vulnerable, not just to violent extremism, but to everyday violent crime, natural disasters and other emergencies.

Always Be Prepared for a Bioterrorism Attack

Project BioShield also sent an important signal to the private sector that the federal government was committed to purchasing countermeasures, which have no other commercial market. Since then, numerous medical countermeasures have been purchased and stored in the Strategic National Stockpile, including an anthrax vaccine, smallpox vaccine, botulism treatment and a treatment for radiation exposure. In 2006, we passed the Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness Act, which provided critical resources to states, health departments and hospitals to beef up preparedness efforts. That bill also strengthened medical countermeasure development by creating the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority, which bridges the “valley of death” funding gap between early-stage research and the actual procurement of vaccines and treatments.

What Constitutes a Scandal?

There is a parallel universe in politics, hinged upon the letter followed by the President’s name.  If it’s a D, political corruption is at an all time low, with the absence of all scandal.  But take a quick trip down memory lane and enter a different dimension, the R universe, ruled by corrupt officials driven by far-reaching political agendas.

In 2006, Alberto Gonzales’ Justice Department fired eight attorneys, in what amounted to the breaking of House and Senate rules and the “unprecedented” removal of said lawyers in the middle of a presidential term.  By 2007, Gonzales was gone, amid a media storm that even had Republicans calling for his head.

“It has been a long and difficult struggle, but at last the attorney general has done the right thing and stepped down,” said Sen. Chuck Schumer at the time.

In 2009, Eric Holder’s Justice Department funneled over 2,000 guns via the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to Mexican gunrunners who, unbeknownst to the ATF, were paid informants to the FBI and DEA.  Lacking a method of tracking the weapons, a sting operation known as “Fast and Furious” was underway, supposedly with the intent of recovering the guns once in Mexico and making arrests.

Since, the weapons have only been recovered at crime scenes, including those of the murdered Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry and U.S. Immigration Agent Jaime Zapata. And over 1,400 of the guns remain unaccounted for.

By 2011, Holder remains comfortably in office, and the story, though escalating, is receiving scant attention, as the media has a funny way of pressing hard for the facts in the firing of a handful of lawyers but not in actual smoking guns purchased by Obama stimulus dollars.

It is tired but true: the deaths of Agents Terry and Zapata and Fast and Furious would be headline news if George W. Bush were in the White House.

And every day the story gets worse.  Now news is surfacing of “Operation Castaway,” a similar undertaking preceding Fast and Furious: instead of Arizona it’s Florida, not 2,000, but a mere 1,000 guns were smuggled, and in lieu of Mexican drug lords they ended up in the hands of cartels in Central and South America.

Tampa Bay Online reports:

As with Operation Fast and Furious, the guns sold by Crumpler wound up with least one killer, according to federal documents, as well as a drug organization in Puerto Rico, the hit man for a Colombian drug organization, a murder-for-hire gang and an effort to smuggle guns into Colombian prisons.

Eric Holder contends he knew nothing about it.  Gonzales had a similar defense back in 2007, but that didn’t much help his chances of remaining in office with the media’s selective outrage.

The fury over the attorney firings was the presumed political motivations by the Bush Administration.  And what action by the Obama regime is not politically motivated?  Withdrawing from Afghanistan in the middle of fighting season, perhaps?

“U.S. attorneys are political appointees who are routinely replaced when a new president takes office, but their removal in the middle of a presidential administration is rare — and some say unprecedented,” the New York Times wrote at the time.  In other words, the action was perfectly legal but the Democrats didn’t like it, so Gonzales had to go.

Some in Congress are investigating the actions of the ATF and the cover up that followed, as they should.  But don’t expect any accountability from Holder, who time and time again has put ideological agenda above the law:  Black Panther intimidation over voting rights, identity politics over Arizona’s attempt to enforce existing Federal law, Miranda rights and civilian trials for terrorists over constitutionally approved military tribunals, et al.

The apparent ideological agenda for these disastrous campaigns was in fact to be a disaster.  Prove the need for Gun Control by demonstrating the effects of automatic weapons along the border.

And even as internal emails are being released revealing an overriding scheme, Holder and Co. show no sign of abandoning their plans.  The Justice Department released a new requirement for Border States to report “multiple sales of semi-automatic rifles,” and House Democrats are even going as far to use the scandal as impetus for a gun control bill.

“I want to make it clear we are very troubled by Fast and Furious. It is our belief that we are going to have to look at this case very carefully and we must go where the evidence leads,” said Elijah Cummings, one Democrat who introduced the bill, in the Los Angeles Times.  “But conducting oversight is pointless unless we translate what we learn into action.”

Translate that we need more gun control from a botched operation designed to implement more gun control?  Or perhaps learn not only that the border is not “more secure than ever,” but the DOJ is making it worse.

The motto of Holder’s Justice Department is “The Common Law is the Will of Mankind Issuing from the Life of the People.”  Only “experts” can determine the “will of mankind.”  As an enlightened bureaucrat, Holder had, in this case, decided that “will” to be a world without guns.

But Justice is not common law made by the “will of mankind,” but the protection of individual rights, including the right to life.  Brian Terry had that right, as did Jaime Zapata.  So where is the Justice?

That is what the media should be asking.  When Republicans are in power there are endless witch-hunts designed to oust as many Administration officials as possible (See Scooter Libby).  When Democrats are in charge there are no corresponding “struggles” to remove public officials and any scandal that may arise is deemed un-newsworthy.

The difference is Republicans are ideologically diverse.  Plenty of Conservatives had problems with the Gonzales Justice Department.  The distinction lies in the narrative, one that makes firing lawyers more criminal than gun trafficking.  And one that keeps Holder unscathed.
