Bat Ye’or: Blasphemy, Dhimmitude & the Great Civilizational Struggle

Today on Secure Freedom Radio Frank is joined by author and political commentator Bat Ye’or for a full hour to discuss the Muslim world, “Eurabia,” dhimmitude, universal rights and much more.  The Cairo-born refugee, who know resides in Geneva, Switzerland, briefs her new book Europe, Globalization, and the Coming of the Universal Caliphate and informs on the “great civilizational struggle” at hand in Europe and around the world.  Ms. Ye’or first popularized the term Eurabia to describe the creeping Islamification of the continent as politicians have sought to create a synergy between the Arab and European worlds.  From first hand experience growing up in Egypt, Ye’or warns against this growing trend as she has seen the cruel treatment of Jews and Christians in Arab nations.

Ms. Ye’or continues and provides the complete definition of dhimmitude, the practice of forcing non-Muslims in adherence to Muslim law and practices.  Ye’or, a scholar of the subject for years, explains the history of Islamic Jurisprudence based on the doctrine that the Infidel has no right to exist.  Guided by this belief, the Jizya, a tax on Infidels, is administered.  “You have to pay to buy back your right to live,” say Ye’or.  Dhimmitude is against the biblical prescription, she says, which attaches the right to life to the human being.  She then explains how Blasphemy laws and hate speech legislation are providing the same effect of dhimmitude in Europe, in which all are subjected to the sensitivities of Islam.

Finally, Bat Ye’or explains the Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s (OIC) vision for a new global caliphate.  She asserts that many Muslims are in fact at the forefront against the Islamification of the West, but out of fear of persecution and apostate labels are silenced.  Governments must support these groups, she says, and not those aligned with the OIC’s goals, including those on the Left.  It is the “duty of every person who lives in a democracy” to debate these issues, says Ye’or, and fight for universal human rights and against this growing tide.

The Administration Takes on ‘Islamophobia’

An unprecedented collaboration between the Obama administration and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC, formerly called the Organization of the Islamic Conference) to combat “Islamophobia” may soon result in the delegitimization of freedom of expression as a human right.

The administration is taking the lead in an international effort to “implement” a U.N. resolution against religious “stereotyping,” specifically as applied to Islam. To be sure, it argues that the effort should not result in free-speech curbs. However, its partners in the collaboration, the 56 member states of the OIC, have no such qualms. Many of them police private speech through Islamic blasphemy laws and the OIC has long worked to see such codes applied universally. Under Muslim pressure, Western Europe now has laws against religious hate speech that serve as proxies for Islamic blasphemy codes.
