Monologue – Trials in New York City

by admin on November 23, 2009

I want to share with you a report from the front of the war of ideas.  I am at the moment in Florida attending the marvelous Restoration Weekend Conference convened each year by the David Horowitz Freedom Center, one of the institutions that I think represents the very finest in the many organizations in the public policy arena trying to keep us aware of the challenges that we face, both domestic and foreign.

The Center works under the leadership of David Horowitz, its founder, and a man who knows a lot about these challenges because for many years of his life, he was on the other side.  He was born of communist parents and brought up by them to think and act like a revolutionary.  In his mid-life he realized that America is a place to be treasured and protected, not to be destroyed.  David has, ever since that revelation, become one of the most formidable, thoughtful, creative, and effective activists in defense of freedom.  I was treated today to a luncheon address here at Restoration Weekend by the eniminable Ann Coulter.  I’m hoping we’ll have her here on Secure Freedom Radio before too long, but in the course of her remarks Ann Coulter spoke quite passionately about this trial and what it implies.

Ann made the point, and I think she is absolutely right, that what we want to be doing at this time is not rewarding terrorists by giving them rights to which they are not entitled, creating precedents that will make it impossible to try other terrorists in any other way, giving them a platform from which to wage lawfare and political warfare against us, or affording them opportunities to compromise our intelligence sources and methods and the means by which we have successfully extracted information from them in the past.  These are the kinds of insights that our enemies would only be too happy to obtain and to use against us in a war that they understand is far from over, and in fact that they believe they are winning.  Ann Coulter recommended that we use the next several weeks to urge members of Congress to exercise the legislative branches power under our constitution to deny these so-called Article III courts.  Congress should deny these court’s jurisdiction over cases that are properly within the purview of military commissions.

This idea is crazy.  If you agree with me and Ann Coulter and so many others that we must not have this trial take place in America, there are several things that we can do about it.  There is a piece of legislation currently in process called the “Keep terrorists out of America Act” that we should support.  We need to stop this trial and the opportunities it will afford for those who seek to spread Shariah and the toxic program associated with it.

I wanted to recommend to you one other thing.  Tuesday in Battery Park in New York City there will be a press conference and rally of those who believe that this trial should not take place, that it should not take place both for reasons of national security and sensible treatment of war criminals and the punishment thereof.

If you want to learn more about this rally, there is a new website, 911neverforget.us
