I want to share with you an important story. I have been covering this story on a blog that I do at Andrew Breitbart’s marvelous website biggovernment.com. As you probably know, biggovernment.com was the sight of the breaking of the story about ACORN. In a series of riveting videos, we have been trying in a small way to help illuminate another scandal. A scandal that involves an organization called the Council on American Islamic Relations, CAIR. It is, known since the Holy Land Foundation trial of last year in which five terrorists were successfully prosecuted, terrorist enablers, financiers and the like, an unindicted co-conspirator in that trial and also, by the way, was identified in the course of the proceedings as an associated group of the Muslim Brotherhood, which – we’ve talked about a lot here at Secure Freedom Radio – has as its mission, repeat after me, destroying Western civilization from within.
Now, the Council on American Islamic Relations has been much in evidence of course of late. Most recently we heard a lot from them about the Fort Hood massacre. We were importuned not to read anything into the religion of the individual believed to have perpetrated this massacre nor to take particularly a stance that the idea that his relationship with an Al-Qaeda recruiter, based now in Yemen, might have had something to do with his actions, or indeed, that terrorism more generally in ways that are so manifestly designed to advance what authorative Islam calls Shariah has any connection between Islam and terrorism. These are the sorts of things that we hear from the Muslim Brotherhood all the time. One of the most vocal and vociferous of their front organizations is the Council on American Islamic Relations.
Now, here is the news item. On November 17, 2009, a prominent United States Senator and five leading members of Congress sent a letter to the Internal Revenue Service asking for the Council on American Islamic Relations to be investigated concerning a possible violation of an act known as the Lobbying Disclosure Act. This act limits the expenditures that a non-profit organization can make in connection with lobbying in Congress and in Washington more generally. If CAIR has actually exceeded the limits of the law, they would risk losing their non-profit tax status. What that means is they would no longer be able to receive tax-deductible contributions – a very important source or factor in the philanthropy of a lot of folks. Not necessarily the people who seem to be contributing so considerably to CAIR, which we’re told includes foreign governments including the interests section of Iran, but for others for whom a tax-deductible contribution is more attractive than one that doesn’t involve tax deductibility, this can be a big deal.
So, the question before the IRS now is; has the Council on American Islamic Relations actually failed to report accurately and consistent with their tax status their lobbying activities? Not only might they lose their tax deductible status but if the secretary of the Senate or the clerk of the House of Representatives determine that they should have registered as lobbyists and find “a knowing violation by a preponderance of the evidence” that they have failed to do what they should have in this regard, registering, they could be subject to a civil fine of not more than $200,000 and perhaps ultimately even, if they knowingly and corruptly failed to comply, imprisonment of up to five years.
So, these are rather serious charges. Congresswoman Sue Myrick, contributor here to Secure Freedom Radio, the Deputy Whip in the Republican caucus in the House and founder of the Congressional Anti-Terrorism Caucus, Representative Trent Franks of Arizona (Congresswoman Myrek is from North Carolina), Representative Paul Brown of Georgia, Congressman John Shadegg of Arizona, Patrick McHenry of North Carolina also are the Congresspeople who have signed this letter and Senator Tom Coburn from Oklahoma, the ranking member of the permanent subcommittee on investigations for the Homeland Security Committee in the Senate also joined them in signing this letter to the IRS. Remember, folks, when Al Capone was taken out, the famous or notorious I should say gangster of the 1920s, it was on the basis of tax cheating. So, I suggest to you that this is a story that you will want to be following. We will be following it here both at Secure Freedom Radio and at biggovernment.com because if indeed the Council on American Islamic Relations has engaged in activities that violate the law, we need to know about it and we need to ensure that corrective action is taken.
There is one body of law of all of us. I know these guys at CAIR and elsewhere want to bring Shariah law in and be governed by it and for that matter have us be governed by it, but for the moment, thank goodness, under our Constitution, under our laws, they and everyone else must conform to one set of laws, promulgated by our Congress, signed into law by the President of the United States and the law of the land and one that we ought to all ensure remains just that. We are going to certainly do our part here at Secure Freedom Radio and by listening to us, by taking heed to the stories that you hear about here at Secure Freedom Radio, by joining us where possible in support of these kinds of Congresspeople who are taking very important, courageous initiatives, they need to be applauded and supported and as I say, the government needs to be held accountable for enforcing in a uniform and consistent fashion the law of the land even as it applies to organizations of an entity like the Muslim Brotherhood that seek our destruction.
